Blessed by the site’s northern orientation, topography and bush outlook, the strategy for Aspect House was to take full advantage of the opportunity to connect indoor spaces with the inherent qualities of the site. Large expanses of glazing focus to the north and view, and to the south the house is cut into the side of the hill protecting it from inclement weather. Constructed of concrete, the thermal mass of the floors and walls will help cool the house in summer and warm the house in winter. The material palette of charred timber cladding, off-form concrete and stone, combined with the clean crisp forms, establishes a contemporary and tactile quality to the home.
